Junior Symphony
The Junior Symphony Orchestra (JSO) is a training programme run by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka to develop young orchestral musicians, guided by the same principle that has run through SOSL’s 65-year history: nurturing future generations.
The JSO is directed by Dushyanthi Perera, who brings over 50 years of orchestral performance experience to the programme, coaching students in interpretation and ensemble skills alongside senior SOSL players who provide technical and interpretive guidance.
Programme features
- Free training for musicians who meet a minimum Grade 5 performance standard
- Instrument coaching from senior SOSL players
- Help sourcing and funding orchestral instruments that are difficult to obtain locally
- A pathway into the main SOSL orchestra for graduating members
The Alliance Française generously provides rehearsal space for JSO classes, in support of bettering the skills of young Sri Lankan musicians.
